We are extremely grateful
to Garland Wilson for granting permission to the ALHN Umatilla County, Oregon site to post
this information on the Internet. Garland painstakingly typed this information on his
typewriter--and continues to type all of his works on his typewriter. He started doing
this before personal computers and feels that his typewriter works just fine even today.
There are two sections to this Cemetery guide. The first section is the
actual cemetery listings and the remaining sections contain information gleaned from area
newspapers and death certificates.
This Cemetery Section shows the location of each burial and is keyed
to the plat map which was used as a guide as inscriptions were copied. Each section listed
shows row numbers with the number of rows in each section. Burials listed each row as
inscriptions were copied. Many unknown burials were found and several with no dates. A
list of names not found in our survey which appeared in other sources are added following
the index.
An additional list of deaths in this area are listed in another
section. These were copies from newspaper accounts from the Weston Leader and the Milton
Eagle and from early burial certificates from both Weston, Oregon and Athena, Oregon.
Some names had various spellings and some we could not make out and these were marked with
a ? mark to denote possible errors.
Roads and identifying marks are added to aid in location areas in
the cemetery and on the plat map. Marks appearing on the left side of the page in front of
the names designate names appearing on the same headstone.
Please note: Information in this index is up to 1988. While Garland had separate
sections (alpha index and row-by-row index), I have combined the two
sections in one to include location info, DOB, DOD, etc. Garland also
compiled information from local newspapers and information from death
certificates and included this information in his index. I will not be
posting this information online at this point to allow time to post other
cemetery indexes and newspaper indexes. However, if you find your surnames and wish
to find if there is further information, please
send queries for lookups to . I have included a rendition of the map of the cemetery from
Garland's book.
Again, I wish to thank
Garland Wilson for allowing his work to be posted to the Internet! |
