| "Out near the old town of Granite, the Fremont Powerhouse, built in 1908 to provide electrical power to nearby towns and gold mines, is being restored by the Oregon National Guard. AN historic reproduction mason is on site to advise workers and oversee the reconstruction, using pieces that were destroyed when the roof collapsed in 1993. The new concrete blocks are being produced in Pendleton and transported to the site. 'After much trial and error, special efforts are being made to recreate just the right mix,' said Tommy Fulgham, forest archeologist with the Umatilla National Forest."
